Finish Lines, Fenway and the Freedom Trail: A Family Guide to Exploring Boston, Massachusetts

April 18, 2019April 18, 2019 AmyButterfieldBoston

“Boston isn’t a city, it’s a family.” -Chad Finn- We have an affinity for historical cities.  There is something captivating about the architecture, character and deep rooted pride of a destination that carries with it the vibrancy of the past.  Boston, Massachusetts, is a culmination of curves and clean lines, as a 19th century church […]

Patriot Place, Gillette Stadium and the New England Patriots: Kicking our NFL Bucket List Through the Uprights

“The thing about football – the most important thing about football – is that it is not just about football.” – Terry Pratchett – Football.  A game of yards and 4th downs, interceptions and intensity.  It’s the power behind a defensive tackle, the beauty of a perfect spiral and the heartbreak of a field goal […]

I'd been waiting for our tour and tasting experience at JACEK Chocolate Couture since Christmas (yes, it's that popular) and it did not disappoint! Jacek is known for its creative, artistic collections, a harmonious blend of the chocolate and fashion worlds. The result is quite literally, edible art.

To say that the folks at Jacek are passionate about their product is a serious understatement. For owner Jackie, it's about "spreading happiness". In fact, her vision is to accomplish just that, one million times over.

Boasting the titles of both chocolate maker AND chocolatier, Jacek has won several international awards as a "Bean to Bar" establishment. Not only are the beans ethically sourced, the owners personally spend a week at the bean farms they partner with, ensuring transparency and quality. Whether it is a 32% "blonde" Dulcey bar to pair with a rosè or a 70% Costa Rican selection perfect for a charcuterie board and glass of red, each chocolate has a story that begins as a bean and ends in a heavenly snapping sound with a fabulous name.

I'd highly recommend this tour. And in fact, rumor has it the downtown location has a coffee pairing experience....and if that's not perfection, I'm not sure what is. 😍💖

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the iconic Edmonton Folkfest! Sitting on the hill among a sea of music loving faces and bright tarps, singing and dancing as the sun sets over the Edmonton city skyline is an absolute summer MUST.

Today is full of excitement as we get a sneak preview into the talented musicians who will take the stage, including names like Hozier, Ani DiFranco, Blue Rodeo and Hurray for the Riff Raff. Stay tuned for the full lineup release on May 29th! Tickets go on sale June 1st.

On our recent trip to Las Vegas, I learned a few things: Snow is on the 'Sin City' short list of rare experiences, and McCarran International is not equipped to de-ice a plane.

With a 41 hour flight delay we quickly incurred additional expenses for food and hotels. Thanks to the fact that we booked and paid for our trip on our WestJet RBC Mastercard, we had $500 Cdn in travel interruption insurance to cover 48 hours after the initial departure time. While we were okay financially, what I became acutely aware of was the fact that many people travel on a budget that doesn't allow room for the unexpected.

My advice? ALWAYS have a financial backup plan for major delays and emergencies. Look into your current coverage (or purchased) before you travel so that you know who to contact, how much coverage you have and what exactly it entails. Also, ensure you keep your original airline tickets and any expense receipts.
