As we head into Canadian Thanksgiving, I am most grateful for moments of peace amidst the chaos of 2020. It hasn't been an easy year for anyone. We are removed from loved ones and friends. Many have felt the stress and anxiety of job loss or wage reduction. Kids have had their social, academic and extracurricular lives turned upside down. Many have experienced the fear and loss of the pandemic too closely. But still, our family has found many ways to persevere and to be even more tightly woven as a unit.
For me, Elk Island has always been a place to escape the headlines and upheaval. And by going early morning, mid week, we had the entire park nearly to ourselves. Crisp air meant a huge variety of wildlife, we saw more bison than I ever remember seeing, heard coyotes yipping in the distance, passed slowly by a sleeping heron and sat and watched a massive elk graze in the distance. Sometimes just removing the noise from our life can do wonders for the soul. Happy Thanksgiving, may you still find many moments to be grateful for ❤ ... See more
